5 Romantic Dinner Ideas

Creating a romantic dinner for your partner needn’t cost a fortune or require weeks of preparation. Use these tips, and your knowledge of your partner’s culinary preferences, to craft the perfect evening with love in the air.

1. Fondue for Two

Create a cheese dipping sauce by combining in a fondue pot four cups of shredded cheese, two tablespoons cornstarch, a cup and a half dry white wine and seasonings, to taste. Melt the mixture over a heat source, stirring until smooth. Stir occasionally while you dine to keep the mixture well combined. Use skewers or fondue forks to dip ingredients into the cheese. Cooked meat cubes and crusty bread pair well with cheese. Prepare dessert in a separate pot, melting chocolate for dipping fruits. Add to the romance by feeding each other. Or inform your partner of the fondue tradition: if a person drops a piece into the fondue pot, they have to give away a kiss.

2. Parisian Picnic

Picnics don’t have to be kept for the daytime. Find a dimly lit spot on the patio or yard to lay out a blanket under the stars. Pack a wicker basket with French themed cuisine. Include crusty bread with whipped butter, gourmet French cheeses, pieces of fruit and pate. Keep a bottle of champagne cool with ice packs and serve for dessert with fresh fruits. For an optional romantic touch, pack a small telescope and take turns pointing out the constellations in the sky above.
3. Aphrodisiac Delights

Aphrodisiacs are foods thought to heighten sexual desire. Create a menu based around some of these sensual treats. Create a salad with arugula, broccoli and carrots. Steam asparagus and serve them with mustard as a side dish. Steam oysters and serve in a tomato based sauce infused with truffles. For dessert, chocolate covered berries paired with wine will stimulate the senses. Impress your love by researching the history of aphrodisiacs and explaining, in detail, what each food is supposed to influence.

4. Two Cooks in the Kitchen

It’s not always bad to have too many cooks in the kitchen. The best cooking is an act of love so share the act with your partner. Make a dish that has distinct parts, allowing for the division of labor. Pasta dishes are a good choice, as one person can work on preparing the sauce as the other cooks the pasta and prepares the accompaniments. Crusty bread and a fresh salad make excellent side dishes.

5. Dinner in Bed

Is your partner the opposite of a morning person? Serve breakfast for dinner with a romantic dinner in bed. Prepare your partner’s favorites, such as French toast or scrambled eggs. Use a proper serving tray to avoid any messy spills in the sheets. Finish the meal by feeding each other strawberries dipped in chocolate and cream.
