1. One of my favorite romantic gift ideas is to buy your loved one a goat. Or a donkey, a camel or a chicken. There are many non-profit organizations, which help you buy an animal donate it to needy people in poor countries. No, you don’t need to go to a store, buy an animal and keep it into your house until it gets donated. These organizations do it for you. You can buy a goat for its real cost, which is around $20, or if money is tight – a chicken for $5. If you want to go nuts, or if you just got a bonus at work, buy and donate a camel for only around $200.
There is a number of organizations which do that, such as International Humanity Foundation (the cheapest place I found so far) or the Maasai Association. Donate it under your loved one name and give her/him a card proving that. He/she should appreciate your humanitarian efforts, thoughtfulness and kind heart.
2. If your significant other doesn’t have any plant-related allergies, a good romantic gift idea will be to buy her/him an unusual plant. Bonsai, for example is very affordable, unique, and, most importantly, low maintenance. Giving plants is a very personable gesture. Plus, if you are not married yet, you will see if he/she knows how to take care of things.
3. Get her/him an Ugly Doll. It is better than giving your loved ones teddy bears or bunnies for every holiday. You can gift the doll along with a weird looking plant.
4. Make something. It doesn’t matter what (make a cake, draw something, etc) and it doesn’t matter if you have any talent. It is the effort and thoughtfulness which count. Accompany this with the right words and you got an awesome and unique romantic gift.
5. Create a website or blog dedicated to her/him. If you are not on good terms with technology, creating a free blog on blogspot or wordpress is the way to go. Write a personal note, post some pictures, a poem (you don’t have to write it, although it wouldn’t hurt). If you are not sure about privacy, you can set up your blog so that only people you allow to view it will be able to do so. If you have mutual friends, send the blog address to them and ask them to write something nice about your loved one. If it is a birthday, ask people to write birthday wishes, etc.
6. Don’t be afraid to be unique and creative. Anyone can buy socks, roses and a teddy bear, but only select few can get something that he/she will remember forever.
